City of Cocoa, Fire Headquarters Station No. 1

W+J Construction, architects RZK, Inc., MK Structural Inc., and the DDC Engineering design/build team were selected to complete the design and construction of the new fire station for the City of Cocoa. The 3-bay fire station headquarters is located on Dixon Blvd and Clearlake Rd. Construction began in January 2017.

Beginning in 2013, Cocoa set out to improve the fire service for the Cocoa community.  This included increasing the number of solo paramedics to enhance ALS service, increasing staffing, and purchasing new equipment and vehicles.  A relocation analysis was done on the existing fire stations.  The goal was to have an aggregate four-minute response time for the entire city to include the new growth areas north and west of S.R.524.

The report evaluated five years of calls for service for the City of Cocoa.  It showed the need to renew and replace existing stations due to the growth of the City (land area, population increase, and shift).  The analysis also showed that the current stations did not meet ADA or OSHA requirements and needed significant maintenance and repairs.  The stations also needed to accommodate male and female firefighters with separate facilities.

The first station to be constructed will be Station 1, located on Dixon Blvd., just west of Clearlake Road. Station 2 is off Brunson Blvd. just east of U.S.1.  Station 3 is off of S.R.524 west of Industry.  Each station will now meet the National Fire Protections Agency response time standards of 4 minutes or less to the entire City of Cocoa, 90% of the time.

Other W+J Construction projects for the City of Cocoa include Cocoa Fire Station 2, Cocoa Fire Station 3, Dr. Joe Lee Smith Community Center, Provost Park, and Stradley Park.
