Cumberland Island National Seashore Visitor Center, GA

The Cumberland Island National Seashore Visitor Center, located in St. Mary’s, Georgia, is the threshold to historic Cumberland Island—the new center involved the construction of a new building and site improvements, which W+J Construction has completed. A shoreline bulkhead, hardscape elements, and landscaping completed the project.  It also included the demolition of the existing visitor center.

Partial clearing of the almost one-acre lot was necessary to improve the site location.  The Visitor Center is an 8,130 square foot 2-story building.  The first floor is constructed of masonry, and the second floor has conventional wood framing.  A standing seam metal roof completed the center.  Encircling the site are winding tabby concrete sidewalks that lead from the center to the ferry loading dock that takes visitors to historic Cumberland Island. Cumberland Island is part of the National Park Service.
