Rocket Garden, KSC
NASA’s Rocket Garden at Kennedy Space Center consists of genuine space artifacts. Mercury, Gemini, Atlas, Apollo, Juno I and II are all rockets “growing” in the garden. W+J Construction renovated this unique project in two phases. Phase I consisted of the demolition and preservation of the space artifacts. Phase II replaced all concrete pedways, landscaping, lighting and upgrades to the children’s play place.
Electrical and concrete demolition was part of Phase I. The rockets are secured with cable-tie downs, so work must be carefully supervised to ensure their preservation. Replacement of pedways included the layout of colored concrete surrounding the rockets and play place. Landscaping, irrigation, and special lighting finished the project.
Other W+J Construction projects at the Space Center include the Apollo/Saturn V Center, the Space Mirror Astronaut Memorial, and The Center for Space Education.
Two important goals during the Rocket Garden Project were to minimize the impact on our guest’s experience and to protect the existing rocket artifacts. Because of your effective construction management, both goals were accomplished.
